This bulletin offers hyper-links to German language web sites in German speaking countries. The links are framed within interactive Internet exercises or web units. The web sites provide rich contextual German while the exercises and questions suggest a guide for 'surfing' as a way to get the most out of your online time. This guide is intended as supplemental material for beginning and intermediate students of German as a foreign language. The main goal is to receive as much language exposure as possible that is presented in an authentic (virtually real) context. Since the sites represent actual locations and directories originating in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, these links are very useful for travelers and other seekers as well.A 'web unit' consists of a URL address link for a site or a server in a German speaking country. Specific questions are posed to be used as a structure for exploration. There are several central directories such as DINO , Yahoo Deutschland and Wien Online. Instructions in each exercise direct you to jump through such directories. While the links provided allow you to reach end-sites directly from the bulletin, it is recommended that you 'ferret out' the answers to questions by surfing through the German directories. Many of the exercises allow you to enter your answers online and recieve either immediate feedback or a delayed response from an actual instructor!

Ideas and addresses for new web units are extremely welcome, as is critique of existing exercises, (but be kind). |
